July 27,2016 C-1982-057/Seneca II-W Mine JHB
discharging a t a low rate. The discharge with completely undercutting the flume so no flow measurements could
be made with the flume. The operator has been utilizing the bucket and stopwatch method for flow. Repairs to the
flume need to be made as soon as possible in order to assure that the pond functions as approved. (photo)
Pond 009 was holding a pool of water. A trickle at the outlet pipe was noted, but the trickle was not making to the
flume but seeping into the drainage way. No concerns were identified with Pond 009
Pond 005 was not discharging. Water level in the pond was approximately 6 inches below the discharge elevation.
A patch of Canada thistle has become established at the flume. Please control this weed patch.
Stock tank T-22 functions primarily as a flow through stock tank. Cattails have become established in this stock
tank.
Stock tank T-24 is dry and well vegetated with minimal weeds.
Stock tank T-20 was dry and well vegetated with grasses and cat tails.
Stock tank T-18 was holding a pool of water well below the discharge elevation. Ducks were swimming in the
pond. The islands were overgrown with rushes and the Sandhill Crane nest was no longer visible. No concerns
were noted with this stock tank. Drainage 005 Gulch looked to be in good condition with no concerns noted.
Stock tank T-5 was holding water and had algae and pond weeds growing in it. No problems were identified with
this stock tank or with drainages 006-Gulch or 006-S 1.
Drainages PM-4,A,B, C and D are all holding up well.
PM-2,PM-3,PM-6,PM-2A and PM-213 were all holding up well. No concerns were identified with these
permanent drainages.
Stock tank T-27 was holding a pool of water, this is the location that elk were observed grazing.
Stock Tank T-26 held a pool of murky water. Elk were observed swimming in this stock tank. This stock tanks
are supporting post-mining land use of wildlife habitat.
Pond 017 was discharging, and had a flurry of ducklings in the pond. A fair amount of trampling by cattle has
occurred on the Pond 017 embankment. A large animal was crashing around in the brush near the flume. The
inspector did not go all the way to the flume since the animal was not visible in the dense brush. A pocket of
young(yearlings?)black cattle were sheltering near pond 017, some had white faces some were all black.
The spring above(east)of Pond 016 was flowing well. No problems were noted at the spring but it appears that
the spring continues to slowly cut south into the hill side.
Pond 016 was discharging. The water in the pond and effluent was clear. The low flow appears to all go through
the flume with no undercutting or side cutting. The flow was very low in the flume and estimated at 0.01 on the
staff gauge. Other than thistle establishing on the outslope of the pond,no concerns were identified with this
pond.
ROADS ❑Rule 4.03
Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4)
Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and(6)/4.03.2(5)and(6):
The mine site was dry, and the permanent roads were dry as well.
