To be judged successful, the total herbaceous production of the reclaimed areas must be
greater than 90% of the total herbaceous production of the reference area (with 90%
statistical confidence). In 2015 the reclaimed areas total herbaceous production was
199.1 g/m2 and the total herbaceous vegetation cover of the reference area was 136.3
g/m2. In 2016 the reclaimed areas total herbaceous production was 397.2 g/m2 and the
total herbaceous production of the reference area was 232.2 g/m2.
Based on the results of the 2015 and 2016 quantitative sampling, the reclaimed areas
exceeded the final revegetation total herbaceous production criterion of the reference
area.
Species Composition
The final species composition standard requires that there be at least three perennial
species of which two are cool season perennial grasses and one is a cool season perennial
forb. No one component of the above three species should comprise greater than 40%
relative cover nor less than 2% relative cover, during a given year's quantitative
sampling. Vegetation species which may be used in the calculation of species
composition may be any plant species not defined as a noxious or prohibited plant
species, and may be native or introduced.
Carbon Junction Mine Reclaimed Areas Species Composition (2015/2016)
* Numbers reflect only those species meeting the relative importance percentage limitation
Species counted toward the species composition requirements in the above table are
depicted in Tables 3 and 5 in color (green for graminoids maize for forbs). The
reclaimed areas eligible for Phase III bond release sampled in 2015 and 2016 exceeded
the requirements for species composition, thereby meeting the final revegetation success
criterion and supporting the post -mining land use.
Carbon Junction Mine Phase III Bond Release Application June 2016 Page 8
Success
Standard
2015 Reclaimed Areas
2016 Reclaimed Areas
Total Perennial Species*
3
11
10
(>2% rel. cover)
Cool Season Grasses*
2
8
5
Cool Season Forbs*
1
2
3
Relative Importance
All Species
All Species
All Species
(2%<g<45%)
* Numbers reflect only those species meeting the relative importance percentage limitation
Species counted toward the species composition requirements in the above table are
depicted in Tables 3 and 5 in color (green for graminoids maize for forbs).
