Species composition and a demonstration of the adequacy of the seasonal nature and
support of the post -mining land use of the reclaimed area vegetation will be successful
when there are three or more perennial or biennial plant species of which two are cool
season perennial grasses and one is a perennial forb. No one component of the above
four species should comprise greater than 45% relative cover nor less than 2% relative
cover, during a given year's quantitative sampling. Species composition data will be
derived from quantitative relative vegetation cover information collected by species or
quantitative herbaceous production data collected by species. Plant species listed as
noxious by the Colorado Department of Agriculture (species on CDA Noxious Weed List
A or B) may not be considered in the evaluation of species composition success. "
Results from the 2015 and 2016 quantitative vegetation sampling of the reference area
and reclaimed areas are presented in Tables 1-9, and summary results compared for
revegetation success below.
Vegetation Cover
Carbon Junction Mine Reference Area and Reclaimed Areas:
Vegetation Cover (2015/2016)
To be judged successful, the total live vegetation cover of the reclaimed areas must be
greater than 90% of the total herbaceous vegetation cover of the reference area (with 90%
statistical confidence). In 2015 the reclaimed areas total live vegetation cover was 47.60
percent and the total herbaceous vegetation cover of the reference area was 18.80 percent.
In 2016 the reclaimed areas total live vegetation cover was 42.30 percent and the total
herbaceous vegetation cover of the reference area was 13.60 percent.
Based on the results of the 2015 and 2016 quantitative sampling, the reclaimed areas
exceeded the final revegetation cover vegetation success criterion of the reference area.
Total Herbaceous Production
Carbon Junction Mine Reference Area and Reclaimed Areas:
Total Herbaceous Production (2015/2016)
2015 Ref.
