§2.04 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING
ACTIVITIES MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INFORMATION ON
ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES.
2.04.3 General Requirements: Site Description and Land Use Information.
(2) (b) (i) ( Cont'd.)
West Mine
The west mine site is very similar to the existing east mine site.
Slopes on both sites are moderate to severe and elevations are
generally 7200 feet. Soils are stony and well -drained on both sites,
vegetation communities are pinyon- juniper and oakbrush types,
and land use is predominately for wildlife and livestock grazing.
As identified In the SCS, "Soils Survey of Paonia, Colorado", the
soils of the east mine site consist predominately of Delson very
stony loam, 20-50% slopes, with smaller areas of Saraton- Agua
Fria complex, 20-50% slopes and torriorthents- rock outcrop -
sandstone complex in the lower elevations.
Delson very stony loam, 20-60% slopes is in capability sub -class
VIIs, non -irrigated. Native vegetation is composed of Gambel oak,
serviceberry, sagebrush and adapted grasses. Potential vegetation
on this soil consists of Wheat grasses, blue grasses and needle
grasses. Grazing potential is limited for livestock and wildlife. This
soil is used for winter range by elk and deer and for recreation
purposes. Limitations on building site development are surface
stoniness, slope and shrink -swell potential, but can be overcome by
proper design and construction methods. This soil is also unsuited
to crops due to surface stoniness and slope.
TR -60 2.04-7 12/2015
