7. Public Access to View the Mine
A new parking lot and interpretive signs will be installed just north of the new mine gate and south
of Windy Point. This location provides a great view of the Franklin Quarry, Washington WRL,
Portals of the Washington Gallery, Portals of the Lincoln Gallery and the Jefferson Quarry.
Additional viewpoints will be added to the western edge of the property above the Portals to the
Washington Galley, Lincoln Gallery, and Jefferson Quarry. The viewpoints will required approval
from Gunnison County and the USFS. They will allow a safe viewing of the operation. Fences will
be installed to permit viewing while maintaining safety. Access to the additional viewpoints will be
through the rerouted trail west of the mine. This trail is shown on all included maps.
8. Gunnison County Impacts
Mining is estimated to be less than 100,000 tons annually including waste marble. Shipped volumes
are anticipated to be less than half of the annual mined tons. No increase in mining tonnages is
anticipated at this time.
Truck traffic: Haulage from the quarry to the handling yard occurs on County Road 30 which is
maintained by the quarry. Haulage from the handling yard out to either rail transload facilities or to
end users occurs on County Road 3 which accesses State Highway 133. No significant change to
truck traffic is anticipated with this amendment. No additional access development will be needed
as part of this amendment.
Noise: The operations at the mine will be a continuation of the mining and processing that have
taken place at the site for several decades. State noise restrictions will continue to be followed.
Dust: Pit activities will be watered and all operations on the site are regulated by the Air Pollution
Control Division of the CDPHE.
Visual impact: There will be no additional significant visual impacts generated by this amendment.
The Pride of America DRMS 112c
Exhibit D - 11 12/23/15
