A portion of the former marble mill in Marble, CO is leased by the operator. The main mine office
is located at this site as well as parking for employees at the mine. A majority of the area is used
for storage of outbound marble blocks. Blocks are washed, weighed, and measured prior to
shipping via truck.
Figure 8 Transload Facility at the former millsite in Marble, CO
5. Topsoil, Overburden, and Waste Marble Handling
Limited topsoil exists at the site. This is both due to the bedrock out crop covering most of the site
and historic mining disturbance. When topsoil or growth media is available it will be immediately
placed if possible. Limited topsoil will be required to reclaim the site due to the final reclamation
configuration. If possible topsoil will be salvaged and stored on completed benches of the WRL's.
Overburden and waste marble will be placed within the WRL designed for the site or used as backfill
in existing or future excavations at the mine. The Washington WRL, Jefferson WRL, and Franklin
WRL have been designed as terraced marble slopes incorporating stacked block retaining walls atop
of and in front of broken waste marble, each with an overall slope of 2.1 H:1 V.
