North Pit Haul Road Reclamation
The North Pit Haul Road provided access to the North Pit during the operation of the
Carbon Junction Mine. Pre -reclamation disturbance consisted of the 40-60 foot roadway
and outslope material.
Reclamation of the North Pit involved the following tasks undertaken between May and
August 2006:
1) Loaded and hauled needed fill from the Permanently Reclaimed Spoils Area.
Backfilling left a 30 foot wide road surface with roadside slopes backfilled to a grade of
3H:1V (see Cross -Section Map). This task was accomplished with tracked excavator and
articulated dump truck team.
2) Regraded and finish graded the sideslopes, outslopes, and road surface.
3) Loaded and hauled topsoil from Topsoil Stockpile #2, covering the entire North Pit
Haul Road sideslopes and downslope areas with eight to twelve inches of topsoil.
4) Placed large sandstone donnikers on the roadside slopes for wildlife habitat. Re -cut
drainage ditches on the sides of the roadway.
5) Regraded and spread the topsoil.
6) Seeded and mulched the North Pit area as described in the revegetation plan.
Permanently Reclaimed Spoils Area
The Permanently Reclaimed Spoils Area (PRSA) provided fill for the North Pit and
North Pit Haul Road reclamation. Approximately 0.5 acres were disturbed.
Reclamation of the PRSA involved the following tasks undertaken between May and
August 2006:
1) Stripped topsoil from the area of the PRSA to be used as fill.
2) Removed fill for use at the North Pit and North Pit Haul Road.
2) Regraded and finish graded the sideslopes, outslopes, and surface after completion of
fill haulage.
3) Replaced stripped topsoil from the PRSA, covering the area with eight to twelve
inches of topsoil.
4) Seeded and mulched the PRSA area disturbed as described in the revegetation plan. i
Abridged Permit Document 5-14 Permit Revision PRO1 9/2014
