September 15, 2015 C-1982-057/Seneca II -W Mine JHB
Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4)
Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6)
Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
SCC has continued maintenance on access road A ditch. Rock check dams have been installed most of the
way to the transition to Access road J. Scott indicated that they had equipment failure and the rest of the rock
check dams would be installed as soon as possible (prior to winter).
Access road G was in good condition and has been graded over the summer. No problems were encountered
driving this road after the rain events. Access road G ditches were in good condition, and all culverts along
Access road G were clear and functional.
LU -3 was in good condition and draining appropriately. LU -5 was in good condition as well. Access road J and
Ridgeline Access road were in compliance and well maintained.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
There were cattle grazing along Access Road A, alongside stock tanks T-2 and T-3, and in the permanent
channel 006 area. Scott said that this was an approved grazing area. Vegetation sampling had occurred in this
area earlier in the summer, and was observed by the inspector.
Approximately 10 cattle were grazing on the Friederick property. No grazing was approved by the landowner on
this property. Gates had been left open by someone. Mine personnel said that they had not given permission to
any of the ranchers for grazing in this area. Scott contacted the rancher. The rancher drove these cattle out of the
area later in the day. Gates were secured after the cattle were out.
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
Pond 16 outslope has a thistle and houndstongue patch re -sprouting. It would be beneficial to spray the
noxious weeds on this pond outslope this fall, and continue to monitor this area until the perennial species
get established.
The south side slope of PM3 has bare patches where it appears equipment travelled for drainage
maintenance. As part of weed management plans, approved seed mix should be broadcast to keep noxious
species from invading (Photo 2).
The unfenced shrub plot north of drainage PM -2 (seeded in 2013, east of Pond 16) shows considerable seedling
mortality. However, Boxelder seedlings are doing well and appear to be thriving (Photo 1).
Vegetation establishment in the upper reaches of PM -3 drainage looks very good. The vegetation is well
established and minimal soil movement was noted on the ground surface. Surge tanks PM -3-1 and PM -3-2 were
not holding any water. Surge tank PM -3-3 held a very small puddle of water, well below the flow through
elevation.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 4 of 8
