The annual average tonnage mined and sold from the site are best predictions since many factors such
as the economy, competition, etc. greatly affect the actual sales.
The life of the gravel operation will be approximately 15 years. Where the gravel is mined from is not
easy to determine since it is very dependent upon the gold operation. If the gold operation is viable over
the 12-13 years shown in the plan, a large part (60,000 tpy) of the gravel sold from the site will be the
waste gravel from the gold plant. If the gold operation is uneconomic, gravel will then be aggressively
mined from the gravel mine area as shown on Map C-2. For planning purposes, it is predicted that the
gravel operation will be in place 15 years at an average product sales rate of 130,000 tons per year, with
2 possible scenarios:
Scenario 1
Year Gravel from piles Gravel from gold Gravel from Total Gravel (tpy)
15 0 0 130,000 130,000
Total 1,230,000
Scenario 2: The gold mine does not operate for any significant period of time. In this case, the gravel
mine will produce all sold material from the gravel mine area, which is basically 2,000,000 tons over the
15 year period. Almost all of the previously mined areas are reclaimed from gravel mining.
In either scenario, front end loaders will be used to deliver the raw gravel to the crushing, screening and
wash plants for separation into various products. Fogger sprays will be present in all three plants to keep
dust down. The crusher will also employ sprays. The plants will be located to minimize impacts to the
town of Alma.
