the town of Alma. This approval will be supplied to DRMS prior to any placement of the plant on site.
The sand and gravel mining area is also shown on Map C-2. The mining of these old piles followed by
regrading will greatly improve the appearance of the site. The following operation parameters are
forecast:
- 12 month per year crushing, screening and washing operation.
- active operation will be maximum 6 days per week, 12 hours per day.
- move an average of 300 tons (200 cy)per hour through the plants while they are running.
-process a maximum of 1800 cy per day of gravel through the plants.
- process and sell an average of 130,000 tons per year from the site of all product materials although a
maximum allowed will be 290,000 cy per year.
- strip an average of 4.5"of topsoil on virgin areas (although they are virtually non-existent in the gravel
mine area) and either directly respread on previously mined and regraded areas or place in a stockpile
for use in reclamation.
- use a combination of 10 yard and 24 yard trucks to haul the gravel products off site.
- use settling ponds in the plant area to trap sediment which will then be stockpiled and used to reclaim
pre-law areas where no topsoil was ever salvaged. Fines stockpile locations are shown on Map C-2.
- allow for a portable asphalt plant to be located on the site for certain job projects, with town of Alma
permission. The plant would only be present for 4-6 weeks for the job and would then be trans- ported
off site.
- allow for a portable concrete plant to be located on site to satisfy specific jobs. The plant would never
be permanently located on site. The concrete and asphalt plants would be located away from the town
in areas that minimize dust, noise, odor and visual impacts.
- install a permanent office/shop building that would be converted to commercial use after the gravel
pit is reclaimed.
- water all roads or use magnesium chloride applications on an as needed basis to keep dust down
- obtain water for the plants from Ponds 3 and 4 using a pump and 8" water line directly to the previous
110 permit area and then to the new mine area.
- use a takeoff from the Columbia Ditch as an alternate point to obtain water when needed. See Map C-
2 for this location, which has been in use for many years.
Alma Place Mine 01/15 28
