July 30, 2015 C-1982-057/Seneca II -W Mine JHB
in this pond. These trout were observed spawning in this pond in the spring. No fry were observed swimming in
the shallows. A healthy covering of pond weeds covered the bottom of the pond. This pond is fed by a perennial
spring located along PM -3. The Pond 16 flume still requires clean out of sediment and vegetation.
Pond 17 was in good condition. No problems were observed on the embankment, or pond sides. Inlets to the
pond are in good shape with no downcutting. The pond held a clear pool of water and was discharging.
Surge tanks throughout the permit area were holding up well.
Stock Tank 20 and Stock Tank 24 were dry. Stock Tank 22 held a small pool of water and cattails were re-
establishing themselves in this tank.
ROADS — Rule 4.03; Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4); Surfacing and Maintenance 4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6)
Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
SCC is in the process of shaping the road ditches along Access Road A. Ditches have been cleaned of
sediment, design configuration re-established. Rock check dams are scheduled for installation.
Roads throughout the mine site remained in good condition. Runoff was capable of draining off roads, and no
gullies were observed cutting across roads, initiating at road cuts, nor were there portions of access roads that were
not draining (i.e. becoming mud holes).
Access road J remains in good condition. Rock check dams have held up well and still effective in performing as
sediment traps. Canada thistles have been sprayed along Access road J. Thistles are showing evidence of
chemical take up and subsequent die -off.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
SCC plans to conduct vegetation sampling for bond release purposes the second week of August.
Vegetation has responded well to the ample Spring moisture. Areas seeded in 2013 are showing healthy
establishment of perennial species found in the seed mix.
The living snow fence has been decimated by elk. The weed fabric has pulled up and is blowing around. SCC
speculates that the elk bed on this fabric since it is warm and retains heat at night. The animals appear to leave the
juniper seedlings alone.
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
Thistle patches in the Pond 16 vicinity have been sprayed in accordance with the Weed Control plan and
are beginning to show chemical take up, and subsequent die -off. SCC should continue to monitor these weed
patches and re -treat in the fall if plants re -sprout.
Small bare patches in areas that have been managed for weed control, may need broadcast reclamation seed mix to
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 3 of 7
