Tabetha Lynch, DRMS
Page 2
July 1, 2015
• Please verify the ownership, uses, and location information for all existing wells or other
developed groundwater resources are up to date as required by Rule 2.04.7 (1)(a)(iv).
Rule: 2.05.4(2)(g) — Reclamation plan
Rule 2.05.4(2)(g) refers to sealing or managing the mine openings, exploration holes, wells, and other
openings.
The 001 discharge valve was closed upon activation of Outfall 016. The Outfall 001 pipe was then
permanently plugged with pumped concrete in conjunction with the South Portal facilities area
reclamation project. The plugged Outfall 001 pipe that extended out of the sealed South Portal began
to leak at some point following the sealing of the pipe with 6 cubic yards of grout SCC submitted
Technical Revision No. 56 in March 2008 to provide a plan to completely reseal the pipe. TR 56 was
approved by the Division and the pipe has been sealed in accordance with the approved plan. SCC
capped off the end of the pipe and encased it in approximately two additional cubic yards of concrete.
Rule: 2.05.6(3) — Protections of Hydrologic Balance
Rule: 2.05.6(3) was reviewed for protection of the hydrological balance in reference to groundwater
and alluvium. Information adequately meets the rule and can be found in Tab 17. Alluvial valley floor
migrations are covered in Tab 21. One permanent discharge point exists (Outfall 016), which drains
from the South Mine workings. Probable Hydrologic Consequences are adequately discussed in Tab 19.
All information required is presented, no additional comments are required.
Rule: 2.06.2 —Experimental Practices Mining
No experimental practices were conducted.
Rule: 4.04(6) — Support Facilities
All information required is presented, no additional comments are required.
Rule: 4.05.10 — Mine Entry and Access Discharges
Requirements are adequately covered as discussed under 2.05.4(2)(g) above for the South Portal.
Discharge from the North Mine workings ceased in 1999 when mining ceased and the pumps were shut
down. The mine was subsequently sealed and backfilled and future discharge is not anticipated based
on projected final ground water elevation.
Rule: 4.05.11(1)-(2) — Groundwater Protection
Adequately covered in the Hydrology Description in Tab 7, and Protection of the Hydrological Balance in
Tab 17. Refuse pile contamination has been adequately addressed in Tab 19.
