5.0 DESCRIPTION OF STORAGE FACILITIES
5.1 Fuel, Oil, Hydraulic Fluids, and Coolants
Mobile equipment fuels, hydraulic fluids, oils, and coolants are stored in tanks or drums within the
confines of the West Pit perimeter in lined storage facilities, storage buildings adjacent to the West
Pit treatment building, or inside the West Pit water treatment facility. The fuel storage area within
the confines of the West Pit perimeter is placed on a lined surface surrounded by earthen berms to
contain spills and prevent surface water migration. At the water treatment facility, drums are
stored inside the building on concrete flooring or in an out building on containment storage pallets
and maintained away from vehicular traffic. By design, all spills in the water treatment facility
are contained and managed within the boundaries of the facility. All used oil is collected for off -
site recycling, energy recovery, or disposal. Storage areas are well ventilated by either ambient
conditions or engineered HVAC designs that maintain the storage areas away from sources of heat
or open flames. Appropriate extinguishing agents are readily available in the event of fire.
Diesel fuel located adjacent to the West Pit water treatment facility will be used to supply fuel to
the ancillary electrical generator equipment and diesel operated vehicular equipment. The fuel
storage tanks are maintained within a designed concrete or geomembrane -lined containment
systems with a capacity equal to 110% of the storage tank liquid volume. The storage tank will be
located away from heat and open flame sources with readily available fire extinguishing media
maintained adjacent to the facility.
Liquid petroleum gas (LPG) is stored and dispensed from aboveground tanks located adjacent to
the West Pit water treatment facility. The LPG is used to provide heat to the facility. At ambient
temperatures and pressures LPG exists only as a gas. Per industry practice, the LPG tanks are
saddled on concrete supports but no collection or containment is provided. Concrete stanchions
protect the LPG storage tanks from accidental contact by vehicular traffic. Sources of open flames
or heat are maintained at a safe distance and fire extinguishing equipment is available adjacent to
the storage locations.
ERP and SPCC Plans AES, Inc.
Battle Mountain Resources — San Luis, CO 4 April 2015 (Update)
