1
IRIS MITIGATION AND DESIGN INC.
IRIS 2022 Arapahoe Street
MITIGATION AND DESIGN, INC. Golden, Colorado 80401
Environmental Consulting Phone: 720 - 272 -1985
bleisure @irismitigation.com
Area 2 (0.09 Acre Restored Riparian Area)
Area 2 is a 0.09 acre riparian area that was planted and seeded with largely riparian area
vegetation. Approximately 50 percent of this area was destroyed by the Flood and is now active
creek bed. The remaining 50 percent had approximately 10 percent vegetation following the
Flood but has rebounded since that time. The 2014 plot data show that Area 2 has 55 percent
establishment of riparian and upland area shrubs and grasses. Area 2 will likely fully re-
vegetate on its own. However, any bare areas will be reseeded and mulched in 2015 or at the
end of Phase 2 construction during overall site reclamation.
Area 3 (0.59 Acre Restored Upland Area)
Area 3 is a 0.59 acre upland area which was not damaged by the Flood. This area was planted
with upland trees and shrubs in 2013. Data from the four plots collected in 2014 show an
average of 71 percent upland species establishment and an average of 29 percent weedy and
bare areas. This area is establishing well and does not need any additional planting at this time.
Weeds such as clematis (Clematis spp.) and buckwheat (Polygonum convolvulus) were
Aobserved in clumps throughout and will be managed through weed control during the 2015
growing season and beyond as needed. This area was not counted in seeded area calculations
I(Tables 4 and 5) because it was not seeded.
Area 4 (0.04 Acre Created Riparian Area)
Area 4 is a 0.04 acre created riparian area that was seeded and planted in 2012 and 2013. The
area was heavily damaged in 2013 due to an inflow of sand and sediment during the Flood.
Schwartzwalder Mine Phase 1 — 2014 Second Annual Mitigation Monitoring Report Page 6
March 2015
