1
Of the 478 originally planted shrubs and willow stakes, IRIS counted 206 planted shrubs which
had survived the Flood. IRIS revisited the project site on September 18, 2014 to count
establishing shrubs and trees. A total of 227 shrubs were counted throughout these mitigation
areas, which amounts to 110 percent shrub success in 2014 since the Flood (see Table 3).
These shrubs are establishing in the created and restored mitigation areas up- gradient of the
cutoff wall. The 33 additional shrubs are volunteers establishing in the heavily flood- impacted
mitigation areas.
Of the 7 remaining rees post -Flood counted in October 2013, 7 trees were counted again in
9 9
2014 which amounts to 100 percent tree success in 2014 (see Table 3). The trees are located
either in uplands outside of the riparian corridor, or were planted away from where the main
flooding occurred. None of the trees or willow stakes planted along the Creek survived the
IFlood.
Overall 2014 mitigation area planted tree and shrub success therefore totals 110 percent (see
Table 3).
ISeeded Areas in 2013
All Phase 1 mitigation areas were seeded in the summer and fall of 2012 at Schwartzwalder
Mine.
