1
IRIS MITIGATION AND DESIGN INC.
IRIS 2022 Arapahoe Street
1 MITIGATION AND DESIGN, INC. Golden, Colorado 80401
Environmental Consulting Phone: 720 - 272 -1985
bleisure @irismitigation.com
PHASE 1 MITIGATION AREA CREATION
In June 2012, American Civil Contractors ( "ACC ") completed Schwartzwalder Mine - Phase 1
construction activities to install an upstream concrete cutoff wall to bedrock across the valley.
ACC also completed creation of three required riparian mitigation areas located just upstream of
the cutoff wall (0.16 acre total) and two restoration areas also located upstream of the cutoff wall
(0.68 acre total) (see Table 1). All mitigation areas were then seeded and hydro - mulched in
July 2012 with either the upland, transitional or wetland seed mixes as detailed in the IRIS
"August 2011 Biological Assessment ". Seeding and hydro - mulching activities were completed
at all disturbed areas to stabilize the soil following Phase 1 construction activities.
The mitigation sites located on the north side of the Creek (approximately 0. 16 acre total) were
trampled by cattle which had strayed across the site in late August/early September 2012. The
0.09 acre restored upland area located just south of the cutoff wall was not trampled. Due to
this trampling and the hot summer conditions, the 0.16 acre mitigation areas were reseeded and
Istabilized with erosion control blanket, at Cotter's expense, in mid - September 2012.
All seeding and mulching of Phase 1 mitigation areas was completed in 2012 as per the revised
actual area impact and mitigation calculations (see Table 1).
2013 Tree and Shrub Installation
The required Phase 1 mitigation area trees and shrubs were installed in late April and early May
2013. The tree and shrub count is detailed on Table 2 and included 2 upland trees, 208 upland
shrubs, 20 riparian trees, 120 riparian shrubs and 150 willow stakes.
Schwartzwalder Mine Phase 1 — 2014 Second Annual Mitigation Monitoring Report Page 2
March 2015
11
