( "Cotter ") Schwartzwalder Mine —
Phase 1 - Second Annual Mitigation Monitoring of mitigation work completed in 2012 and 2013.
This report is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ( "USACE ") 404 Permit mitigation
requirements (Permit # NOW- 2011- 1353 -DEN dated November 25, 2011) and has been
prepared for the USACE and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service ( "USFWS "). IRIS Mitigation and
Design, Inc. ( "IRIS ") is assisting Cotter on this project work at the Schwartzwalder Mine located
near Golden, Colorado.
The September 2013 devastating flood event (the "Flood ") had a significant impact on Ralston
Creek (the "Creek ") and adjacent riparian vegetation throughout the area. As described more
fully in the IRIS "2013 Phase 1 Mitigation Monitoring Report", the Flood destroyed approximately
50 percent of existing riparian vegetation along the Creek and an estimated 47 percent of Phase
1 planted vegetation that was establishing in the Phase 1 mitigation areas. This greater than
500 -year storm event inflicted heavy damage to the Phase 1 mitigation areas which are now
recovering as evidenced in the field and as detailed in this report.
I Schwartzwalder Mine Phase 1 — 2014 Second Annual Mitigation Monitoring Report Page 1
March 2015
