1
IRIS MITIGATION AND DESIGN INC.
IRIS 2022 Arapahoe Street
MITIGATION AND DESIGN, INC. Golden, Colorado 80401
Environmental Consulting Phone: 720- 272 -1985
bleisure @irismitigation.com
plots had 5 to 50 percent vegetation loss and only two plots had zero percent vegetation loss.
a<
The average 2013 vegetation loss due to the Flood along the Creek, according to the plot data,
totaled 52 percent loss (see Table 6).
Data collected in 2014 from the 10 sampling points along the Creek show that all plots have
greater vegetation establishment during the 2014 growing season (see Table 6). Plots with
complete vegetation destruction by the Flood are rebounding due to new plot location (Plots 2, 5
and 10). Vegetation establishment in these new plots averaged between 30 to 75 percent
cover. Plot 6 had complete loss of vegetation due to the Flood, and had 20 percent vegetation
establishment in 2014. Several plots had partial vegetation destruction, including Plots 3, 4 and
9. These plots have seen an approximate doubling of post -Flood vegetation coverage. The
remaining Plots 1 and 8 had only minor vegetation destruction due to the Flood, and these plots
have almost fully recovered in 2014.
The overall 10 plots along the Creek are recovering after the 2013 Flood. Only two plots (Plots
6 and 10) are struggling to recover due to the extreme amount of scour followed by rock and
debris deposition that altered the exact location of the plots.
The Creek flowed for several weeks during the spring of 2014 due to high water runoff. This
combined with the adequate rainfall throughout the majority of the summer allowed for sufficient
hydrology for plant establishment along the Creek. Any vegetation seen under stress in 2014
was due to insect and disease conditions.
Schwartzwalder Mine Phase 1 — 2014 Second Annual Mitigation Monitoring Report Page 9
March 2015
1
