These
areas are slowly rebounding and have an average of 42 percent vegetation cover in 2014 (see
Tables 4 and 5). Areas 1, 4 and 5 may need some reseeding /mulching during the summer of
2015 or at the end of Phase 2 construction. Areas 2 and 6 have good vegetation establishment,
and Area 3 was never seeded and has good upland plant establishment. All areas will be
monitored for weeds during the 2015 growing season and will have follow -up weed control as
needed.
Ten 3 -Meter Square Plots
IRIS has been monitoring tree and shrub health along the Creek within ten 3 -meter square plots
as part of the 2011 BA requirements. IRIS has been collecting monthly data downstream of the
cutoff wall since July 2012. Data are collected because of the diversion of the Creek through
the 18 -inch pipe adjacent to the Creek, and its effect on overall riparian vegetation health. An
irrigation system was installed in 2012 to irrigate this stretch of creek. The irrigation system can
only operate when there is water flowing in the Creek, which usually runs dry in May or June
such that there is no surface flow for a period of several months. This irrigation system was
completely destroyed by the Flood.
After the 2013 Flood, IRIS collected data at each of the ten plots in 2013 (see Table 6). Four of
the ten plots had no vegetation left, as extreme erosion and depositional activity had scoured
out the area and deposited rock and cobble in place of where vegetation had been.
