• Sand pack plan: From TD to -3' above top of screen (1194').
Calculate 2.5 sacks (50 lbs each, 1012/1020 mix) of Colorado Silica
Sand. Poured through the tremie with a water flow.
• Pour 1.5 sks sand (enough to fill to top of screen), wait 15 min., and
lower tremie to top of screen tag point. No tag. Add 10' joint - no tag;
add second 10' joint and tag.
• Decide there is a probable miscount of tremie joints. Take off the two
10s and add one full joint (should be #57. The miscount was later
confirmed when the tremie came out of the hole during the
cementing). Lower tremie string and tag 4' high. Uncertain of reason
for high tag.
• Pull back 5 stands of tremie (210') and pour the remainder (0.7) of the
first pail, plus I additional pail (85 lbs) of Cetco 3/8" coated bentonite
tablets.
• Wait 1 hour, pour 1/2 sack of sand as a protector. Water began flowing
up and out of tubing, but stopped.
NOTE: A review of the tremie calculations, found an error in the
assumed length of a tremie joint - 21' was assumed; it should be 21.05'.
The supposed high tag resulted from using the incorrect length:
(1197-5.5' for the stinger) /21' = 56.73 joints of tremie
(1197 -5.5' for the stinger) /21.08' = 56.52 joints of tremie
56.73 -56.52 = 0.21 joints
0.21x21.08' = 4.42' the tag to the top of the screen was thought to be 4'
high.
Recalculating the tag using 21.08' suggests that the sand pack was
actually no higher than the top of the screen and that the pellets were
probably placed on the top of the screen assembly.
November 3
• Water is flowing weakly from the tubing, e I gpm.
• Trip in hole with tremie and tag at 11.8' on the last joint - near top of
screen.
• Pull back to 1187' and start grout pour. Cement from top of sand to
surface with 13 pound per gallon neat cement. Mix and pump - 1630
gallons (120 sacks) in 6 stages. Pull 10 joints of tremie at each stage.
• Cement did not come to surface.
• Mix an additional 15 sacks (200 gallons) and bring cement to surface.
Re -fill as it falls back.
• Install temporary plug and valve in tubing.
• Estimated flow <I gpm.
