Cow Camp CCU -023 CO Completion Notes
October 27
• Drill 6-1/4" pilot hole to 60'.
• Ream 0' -40' to 11 ".
• Set 40' of 8 -5/8" OD, .188 wall, steel casing.
• Cement down annulus with tremie pipe.
October 28 -31
• Drill ahead from surface casing with 6-1/4" bit to core point.
• Core Wadge coal and a short interval of underburden.
NOTE: Artesian water flow encountered above the Twentymile SS.
Flow volume about 1 gpm. Flow volume increased to about 3 gpm when
drilling through the Wadge overburden sandstones.
A broken zone was encountered below the Lennox coal. There, the bit
jumped and dropped 3 -4 times. The top of the Wadge coal was -2 feet
higher than anticipated; the zone may be a fault.
November 1
• Ream core interval to 6-1/4" for screen section.
• Circulate to clean hole, trip out and lay down drill string.
• Pour 1/3 pail of bentonite pellets to fill and seal bottom. 1.3' of hole
(drilled into underburden).
• Plan to land screen at base of coal. Screen the interval 1197' to
1204'. Top of coal estimated at 1195' (missed top in coring).
• Make up the screen assembly from one 7 -foot section of Johnson
Muni -Pak well screen (2" ID x 4" OD, 4-1/2" nominal, 0.025 slots, SS
304).
• Fit with stainless bottom cap (2" NPT threaded) and a 2" NPT to 2-
3/8" NUE thread crossover and a stainless steel centralizer set to 6-
1 /8" at the top of the screen section.
• Tally a string of solid steel casing /tubing, variable lengths of 2 -3/8"
OD, .190 wall, J -55 4.6 ppf, NUE, 10 Rnd thread, galvanized.
• Lower screen into well and land. Landing mark (1204.21 was 11" low;
may not have filled hole bottom sufficiently, or may have pushed into
soft bentonite. Lifted back to landing mark. Hang string from a
surface plate.
• Run in the hole with a string of 1 " tremie pipe to the calculated top of
screen at 1197.7'. No good tag. Lower tremie slightly, driller felt some
resistance and stopped. Did not want to lower the tremie deeper and
possibly damage the screen.
• Lift tremie to calculated tag point, hang, and prepare to pour sand
pack.
