March 19, 2015 C- 1994- 082/Yoast Mine JHB
out of the horizontal pipe, installs a temporary flume in the channel, or uses a flow meter to determine discharge
flow. These are acceptable for temporary measures. The flume needs to be reinstalled correctly as soon as
conditions allow. There are remains of a horse (hooves with horse shoes observed) north east of Pond 10
embankment.
Pond 14 was still ice covered and not discharging. Snow was still covering the Pond 14 embankment. Snow still
covered YPM -14, so no observations could be made regarding the integrity of this drainage. Portions of YPM 3 -2
and YPM 3 -2A that were visible looked good, with no apparent down - cutting or breaching. Rock gabions appear
to have held up well.
Pond 13 was discharging 0.25 on staff gauge in the flume. The discharge was slightly cloudy. And the pond was
still partially covered with ice /slush. Salamanders (mudpuppies) were observed swimming in pond 13.
Pond 12 A was free of ice, and held a cloudy pool of water. Pond 12A was not discharging. The water elevation
in Pond 12A was approximately 2 feet below the riser bottom.
Pond 12 was almost free of ice, and was discharging. This flume is not level, making flow measurement in the
flume inaccurate. Vegetation was also present within the flume. The flow was approximately 1" deep in the
deepest part of the unlevel flume.
There was a gully beginning to form on the east side of drainage YPM -5 -1. This gully has formed upslope (south)
of the first surge tank south of Pond 12A.
ROADS — Rule 4.03
Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3)
Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4)
Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6)
Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
The main access road, LU1 and LU3A were fairly firm and drivable all the way to Culvert YB -6. After
culvert YB -6, road LU -3A was snow covered and soft. The inspector did not drive on the snow covered road.
Road side ditches were functioning well and draining run -off to appropriate drainages. No breaching of the road
ditches on the main access road was observed.
Runoff from the north pit is beginning to downcut the crossing over culvert YB -6. SCC needs to monitor this and
repair if flow continues to downcut this bank (photo).
Road LU -313 was inaccessible due to snow cover and muddy conditions. LU 5 and LU4 were too soft to try to
drive on.
Repairs to gullies along the main access road in 2014 were holding up well (Photo).
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 6
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 10
