SECTION 5.8: WASTE MANAGEMENT <br />WM 3: SANITARY AND SEPTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT <br />WM 3: Sanitary and Septic Waste Management <br />Description Practices to be used in order to minimize and prevent sanitary and septic <br />waste associated with construction activities from entering storm drains and <br />watercourses. <br />Applications Facilities or designated construction work areas that use temporary or <br />portable sanitary and septic waste systems. <br />Standards and <br />Specifications <br />Maintenance <br />and Inspection <br />• Temporary sanitary facilities shall be located away from drainage ways, <br />inlets, receiving waters, areas of high traffic, and areas susceptible to <br />flooding or damage by construction equipment. <br />• Temporary sanitary facilities shall be properly connected into a sanitary <br />sewer system where permissible to prevent illicit discharges. Authorized <br />sanitary sewer system connections shall comply with local health agency, <br />county, and sanitary sewer district requirements. <br />• Wastewater generated from sanitary facilities shall not be allowed to flow <br />into drainageways, inlets, receiving waters, or into the CDOT highway <br />right-of-way. <br />• Only licensed sanitary/ septic waste haulers shall be used to properly <br />dispose of waste from temporary sanitary facilities. <br />• In project areas susceptible to strong winds, temporary sanitary facilities <br />shall be secured to prevent overturning. <br />The contractor shall provide regular inspections every 14 days and after <br />each storm event to ensure proper sanitary and septic waste management <br />measures are being followed, and that sanitary facilities are being <br />properly maintained and cleaned. <br />5.91 <br />
