2014 Annual Reclamation Report
Southfield Mine
mining operations at Southfield. Although uncertain if mining operations contributed to the loss of
the well, EFCI mitigated the loss of the well by drilling a new water well for the Corley
Company. The new water well, Well No.296198, was completed December 15, 2014 producing
twelve (12) gallons per minute at the time. The new well is located in the SW4 of the NE4,
Section 23, Township 205, Range 70W, 6thPM on the Corley property. Coordinates are:
38d17'39.80 "N, 105d11'14.72 "W. The chemical analysis of the well water has yet to be
determined at the time of this writing.
Other Mitigation, Subsidence Cracks, Clean-up Tasks
The Corley Company reported subsidence cracks disturbance on their property. The small cracks
appeared to be tension cracks assumed to be over support barriers of the underground workings.
EFCI commissioned Daryl Mergen of Mergen Ecological Delineations, Inc. to repair and reseed
the subsidence features. Mr. Mergen also repaired and reseeded a small wash over an old
abandoned water line on the Corley property, removed broken pieces of PVC pipe from along the
abandoned water line and reseeded the Canon National mine subsidence features which were
stated to have been impaired by wild turkeys feeding and disturbing the previous seeding. Mr.
Mergen completed the above work during December, 2014.
A detailed report of the mitigation work by Mergen Ecological Delineations, Inc. is included with
this submittal.
Sediment Pond No. 4 - Permanent Structure
During November, 2014, EFCI submitted Technical Revision No.42 (TR -42) requesting approval
to retain Pond 4 as a permanent structure. TR -42 is in response to the landowner's (the Vento
Group) letters of request to retain the pond on a permanent basis to enhance the post mining land
use which is approved as open rangeland and for wild life habitat. The Colorado Division of
Water Resources (DWR) was contacted and responded requiring additional information and data.
Accordingly, TR -42 is pending approval at the close of the report year (2014).
Sediment Pond No. 5 - Permanent Structure Request
During November, 2014, EFCI submitted Technical Revision No.44 (TR -44) requesting approval
to retain Pond 5 as a permanent structure. TR -44 is in response to the landowner's (The Corley
Company) letter of request to retain the pond on a permanent basis to enhance the post mining
land use which is approved as open rangeland and for wild life habitat. The Colorado Division of
Water Resources (DWR) was contacted and responded requiring additional information and data.
Accordingly, TR -44 is pending approval at the close of the report year (2014). Both of the above
referenced ponds, Pond 4 and Pond 5 have benefitted the numerous head of Elk and other wildlife
throughout Southfield mining and reclamation operations.
10
