Groundwater Monitoring & Response Plan
• Field laptop computer and appropriate connector cables to connect to pressure
transducers and data loggers
• Digital camera for documentation
• Miscellaneous supplies (nitrile gloves, personal protective equipment [PPE], tape
measure to record well stickup, and keys to wellhead padlocks)
3.4 Water Level Monitoring Procedures
Field documentation will be recorded in a log book. Water level measurements will be
accomplished in accordance with the procedures described below.
3.4.1 Water Level Measurement Using Hand -Held Indicator
Static water level measurements will be obtained through the use of manually operated electronic
water level indicator tapes. Water level measurement using a hand -held indicator will proceed as
follows:
• Remove the well head or well cap
• Check that a measurement mark or other identifiable indicator has been placed on top of
the well casing stickup; for consistency, the measurement marks will be placed on the
north side of the casing. If the mark has worn off, re -mark the casing.
Upon the initial measurement, measure the height of the well casing (stick -up) as the
distance from the top of the casing to the ground surface. If a steel protective casing has
been installed around the wellhead, measure the height of the steel protective casing and
the difference between the measuring point on the well casing and the top of the steel
protective casing. Calculate and note the stick -up of the well casing above the ground
surface.
• Assure that the water level indicator tape and probe have been properly decontaminated
according to the procedures outlined below.
• Perform battery check to ensure water level indicator is functioning properly.
• Lower probe into well until static water level is encountered, signified with audible alarm
and indicator light.
• Adjust the sensitivity of the audible alarm to assist with obtaining a consistent depth to
water measurement.
Western Water & Land, Inc. 6
