Groundwater Monitoring & Response Plan
• Read depth to water as measured to the top of the well casing at the marked measuring
point to the closest one hundredth of a foot (0.01 feet). Repeat measurement to verify
accuracy.
• Note general well conditions, and record date, time, well stick -up, and measured depth to
water in bound field logbook.
• Retrieve probe from well; use wetted clean cloth to clean tape as it is retrieved from the
well. Use 10% bleach solution to clean and rinse when measuring levels in domestic
wells.
The water level meter used to measure the depth to water should be calibrated once per year to
ensure it is accurate and has not stretched or been shortened during repairs.
3.4.2 Pressure Transducer Installation and Download
A pressure transducer with an internal data logger will be used to obtain continuous water level
measurements. Installation of pressure transducers will proceed as follows:
• Remove well head or well cap
• Program the data logger to record at the preferred recording interval
• Measure the direct read cable, or hang cable, to design hang depth. The hang depth
should be deep enough to ensure the pressure transducer hangs well below the projected
low groundwater elevation, but not deep enough to exceed the sensor's maximum
pressure rating.
• Measure the water level using an electronic water level indicator following the
procedures outlined in Section 3.4.1.
• Lower the pressure transducer to desired depth and secure the cable at a point on the well
head to ensure the cable does not slip.
• Mark the cable with electrical tape or equivalent to help detect if cable slips at any time
in the future.
• If using a direct read cable, view the recording pressure prior to leaving the well to
ensure correct depth placement.
• Download pressure data to a laptop computer using vendor - provided software and
conventional electronic data - transfer methods.
Western Water & Land, Inc. 7
