Groundwater Monitoring & Response Plan
3.2 Monitoring Schedule
Once installed, pressure transducers will remain in place throughout the year. Each pressure
transducer will be programmed to record pressure readings at least every six hours; the recording
frequency may be increased during active dewatering if needed to refine model predictions. The
stored data record for each well will be downloaded and examined immediately prior to
commencement of dewatering to assess initial conditions and identify any natural trends in local
groundwater levels. The pre - operational data will be plotted on charts showing water levels over
time. During active dewatering, the data record will be closely monitored, downloaded and
examined at least weekly. The data will be incorporated into the pre - operational water level plots
and input to the numerical model as necessary to forecast changes to private wells in the vicinity
of the Pit.
If a pressure transducer cannot be installed in the McGarry well, water levels in the well will be
estimated on the basis of pressure transducer readings for the monitoring wells and periodically
confirmed with manual measurements using a hand -held water level indicator.
Staff gage readings for the Animas River will be periodically recorded as needed to support
model calibration and refinement.
3.3 Water Level Monitoring Equipment
The following equipment and supplies will be used to conduct the water level monitoring
program:
• Electronic pressure transducers with data logging capabilities and direct -read cables
• Telemetry system for each well, if used
• Electronic hand -held water level indicator
• Calibrated staff gage
• Deionized or distilled water and decontamination equipment (e.g. Alconox detergent or
equivalent, 10% bleach solution, bucket, brush, chemical free paper towels.)
• Logbook
Western Water & Land, Inc. 5
