It is found at elevations of 6500 to 7800 feet in scrub oak and pinon juniper
communities. These are well drained soils with slow to moderate permeability. The water erosion
hazard is high to very high while the wind erosion hazard is slight.
A typical profile includes a surface layer of 4 to 8 inches of loam or very channery clay loam.
Where present, the subsoil consists of 11 to 30 inches of clay loam, clay and/or sandy clay loam.
The substratum, where present, is 12 to at least 22 inches thick consisting of clay loam, clay,
and/or sandy clay loam. Depth to bedrock is from 16 to more than 60 inches.
Fuera-Dargol-Varner Complex, 3 to 25 percent slopes (map symbol P3E)
This complex includes deep soils which have developed in residuum on mountain slopes. It is
found at elevations of 6900 to 9000 feet in mixed conifer communities. These are well drained
soils with slow to very slow permeability. The water erosion hazard is very high and the wind
erosion hazard varies from slight to high.
A typical profile includes a surface layer with 3 to 7 inches of duff, cobbly loam, loam, and/or
• fine sandy loam. The subsurface and subsoil layers consist of 13 to 40 inches of cobbly clay loam,
cobbly clay, clay, and/or fine sandy loam. It is found at elevations of 6900 to 8500 feet in pinon juniper and scrub oak
communities. These are well drained soils with slow permeability. The water erosion hazard is
very high, but there is no wind erosion hazard.
A typical profile includes a surface layer with 4 inches of channery silty clay loam. The subsoil,
where present, consists of 20 inches of very shaly and channery silty clay loam. The substratum,
where present, consists of 12 inches of very shaly silty clay loam.
