• Rule 2: Pernu[s
areas revealed shallow soils which fit more closely with the NRCS description for the Louviers-
Sarcillo-Trag Complex. As a result, these areas have been given the latter designation on the soils
map. Mapping for the balance of the permit area corresponds to the NRCS mapping. A soil
salvage plan is included in Section 2.05.4. It discusses the horizons which LCC proposes to
salvage within each portion of the permit area. A brief description of each unit follows. More
detailed information for both the soil mapping units and soil series are found in Exhibit 9, Soils
Technical Report.
Shawa Loam, 5 to 15 percent slopes (map symbol CeD)
This is a deep soil which has developed in alluvium in the valleys of Lorencito and Cow creeks.
It is found at elevations of 6200 to 7800 feet in grassland communities. This is a well drained soil
with moderate permeability. The water erosion hazard is high to very high, but there is no wind
erosion hazard.
A typical profile includes a surface layer of 17 inches of loam. The subsurface layer consists of
14 inches of loam. The substratum is at least 29 inches thick consisting of clay loam and loam.
Depth to bedrock exceeds 60 inches.
Trag Loam, 3 to 9 percent slopes (map symbol M11 D)
• This is a deep soil which has developed in alluvium and residuum in high alluvial terraces and
mountain foot slopes. It is found at elevations of 6500 to 7800 feet in grassland communities.
This a well drained soil with moderate permeability. The water erosion hazard is medium to high
while the wind erosion hazard is slight.
A typical profile includes a surface layer of 8 inches of sandy loam. The subsoil consists of 30
inches of clay loam and sandy clay loam. The substratum is at least 22 inches thick consisting of
loam. Depth to bedrock exceeds 60 inches.
Fughes Clay Loam, 3 to 9 percent slopes (map symbol C2D)
This is a deep soil which has developed in residuum on mountain foot slopes. It is found at
elevations of 6800 to 8800 feet in grassland communities with scattered shrubs and pinon juniper.
This is a well drained soil with slow permeability. The water erosion hazard is moderate to high
while the wind erosion hazard is slight.
A typical profile includes a surface layer of 5 inches of clay loam. The subsoil consists of 50
inches of silty clay loam, clay, and silty clay. The substratum is at least 5 inches thick consisting
of loam. Depth to bedrock exceeds 60 inches.
C~
J
PERMIT.C]6\Dsembv Z0, 1996 2.04-40
