nor mar the appearance of any part of the Work. The surfaces of wasted material shall be <br />left in a reasonably smooth and even condition. <br />F. The type of equipment used and the Contractor's operations in the excavation of <br />materials in the borrow areas shall be such as will produce the required uniformity and <br />gradation of mixture of the types of materials at the borrow area. <br />G. Clear borrow pit sites. Remove boulders, brush piles, topsoil, sod, loam, and other <br />unsuitable material. <br />H. Place debris and stockpiles in areas approved by the Engineer. <br />G. Utilize suitable stockpiled materials obtained from required excavation or material from <br />foundation excavations before obtaining materials from the borrow area unless otherwise <br />approved by the Engineer. <br />H. Excavate sufficient suitable materials from the borrow areas to complete required Work. <br />Dispose of unsuitable excavated earth materials or selectively excavate to leave <br />unsuitable material in place when possible and practical. <br />J. Separate oversize materials as required prior to loading for haul to the fill. <br />K. Condition material for moisture content within the borrow areas, by blending, moistening <br />or drying, prior to placement in the fill unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. <br />L. If necessary, uniformly moisten material to produce specified moisture content. Avoid <br />excessive runoff and accumulation of water in depressions. <br />M. Reduce water content by selective excavation, by excavating, disking and /or harrowing, <br />and placing material containing excessive moisture in temporary stockpiles, by <br />excavating drainage ditches, by allowing adequate additional time for draining or drying, <br />or by any other approved means. Mixing of wet and dry material on the fill to achieve <br />acceptable moisture conditions will not be permitted at any time. <br />N. The Contractor shall transport the materials to the liner embankment or other fill areas by <br />the Contractor's designated haul routes. Random access to /from the borrow areas or <br />across /through fill areas shall be avoided at all times throughout the Project <br />NCCI Pit #1 Reservoir Liner - Technical Specifications Excavation <br />31 23 16-3 <br />
