Seneca 11 Mine
SL -6 Phase W Bond Release Request
June 2014
Since critical tc = 1.311 (one - tailed, alpha = 0.2, 29 df and t,jc is greater than this critical value,
Alternative Species Density Test B for BRB -5 Phase III in 2011 is NOT passed.
Regarding Alternative Test C, the similarity index between the lifeform species density values for
the prescribed lifeforms for 2011 BRB -5 and the Mean Species density (Area - weighted) in the
two reference areas is 84.2 percent (Table H -3, Report in Attachment D). This exceeds 90% of
the standard (0.9 x 70% = 63 %). Hence Alternative Test C is passed.
In assessing Alternative Test D, the total number of native species encountered in nine 100 sq.m.
(2 in x 50 m) samples of the 2011 BRB -5 Phase III area was 46, greater than the weighted
reference area average species density (34.1 species per 100 sq.m.). Note that three more samples
than the minimum number of six adequate cover samples were assessed. Hence Alternative
Test D is passed.
Thus, for 2011 species diversity, Mandatory Test A was passed as were Alternative Tests C and D
and hence the species diversity test as a whole is passed for 2011 BRB -5 under Phase III criteria.
2012 Species Diversity Success Evaluation
Mandatory Test A requires that no single species comprise greater than 60% relative cover in the
2012 BRB -5 Phase III area. Table H -5 (Report, Attachment D) shows that the most abundant
single species (alfalfa) had 30.80% relative first -hit cover, below the 60% requirement. Hence
Mandatory Test A is passed.
To assess Alternative Test B, Total Species Density test (probability- adjusted density standard),
the following is calculated for 2012 BRB -5 Phase III (Table H -6, in Report, Attachment D):
Mean Species density (area- weighted from the reference areas = 28.45 species /100 sq.m.
Mean Reference Area Species Density —1.15 s - 28.45 —1.15 (4.07) = 23.77
Mean total species density in the 2012 BRB -5 = 21.86
22
