Seneca 11 Mine
SL -6 Phase III Bond Release Request
June 2014
Total cumulative # of native species* >_ avg. reference area native species density
( #species /100 sq.m.)
* In the cumulative presence data from 2 m x 50 in samples associated with the
collection of a statistically adequate reclaimed area sample (based on the cover samples),
and including alfalfa and /or cicer milkvetch, included in seed mixes as nitrogen —fixers
and protein forage.
If the total cumulative number of native species in the reclamation sampling exceeds the average
number of native species per 100 sq.m. using weight averaged reference area sampling, then Test
D is passed.
2011 Species Diversity Success Evaluation
Assessing Mandatory Test A (no single species comprise greater than 60% relative cover), The
data (Table H -1, Report in Attachment D) shows that the most abundant single species in the
BRB -5 reclaimed area (intermediate wheatgrass) had 25.88% relative first -hit cover which is
below the 60% threshold value. Hence Mandatory Test A is passed.
To assess Alternative Test B, Total Species Density (probability- adjusted density standard), the
following test is calculated for 2011 BRB -5 data (see Table H -2, Report in Attachment D):
Mean Species density (area- weighted from the reference areas) = 38.05
species /100 sq.m.
Mean Reference Area Species Density —1.15 s = 38.05 —1.15 (8.14) = 28.69
Mean total species density in the 2011 BRB -5 Phase III sample = 24.37
A classic t -test asserting that the 2011 BRB -5 Total Species Density is indistinguishable from
90% of the standard is as follows:
t c = 28.69 — 24.37 = 4.38
5.4
N1 30
Critical t (a= 0.1) = 1.311
21
