Seneca // Mine
SL -6 Phase /// Bond Release Request
June 2014
A classic t -test of the assertion that the 2012 BRB -5 Total Species Density is indistinguishable
from 90% of the standard is as follows:
t — 23.77 — 21.86
caFc — 5.02
V 35)
Critical t (a= 0.1) = 1.307
Since critical tc = 1.307 (one - tailed, alpha = 0.2, 34 do and tcoc is greater than this critical value,
Alternative Species Density Test B for Phase III in 2012 is NOT passed.
Regarding Alternative Test C, the similarity index between the lifeform species density values for
the prescribed lifeforms for 2012 BRB -5 and the Mean Species density (Area - weighted) in the
two reference areas is 76.2% (Table H -7, Report in Attachment D), which exceeds 90% of the
standard (0.9 x 70% = 63 %). Hence Alternative Test C is passed.
Regarding Alternative Test D, the total number of native species encountered in the minimum
adequate number of eleven 100 sq.m. (2 m x 50 m) cover samples for the 2012 BRB -5 Phase III
area was 56, greater than the weighted reference area average species density of 28.5 species per
100 sq.m.. Hence Alternative Test D is passed.
In summary for 2012 species diversity, Mandatory Test A passed as did Alternative Tests C and
D. Thus, the species diversity test as a whole is passed for 2012 BRB -5 under Phase III criteria.
Postmining Land Use
The postmine land uses for the Seneca II Mine are livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. Grazing
has been conducted for a number of years at the Seneca II Mine to implement and demonstrate
the postmine land use. Additionally, grazing encourages re- establishment and enhancement of
native diversity and woody plant density. The grazing season at Seneca II has historically been
from mid July to mid - September. The 2011 estimated stocking rate based on herbaceous
production data, forage palatability and a fifty percent (50 %) proper use factor is 0.95 acres per
animal unit month (AUM). The estimated stocking rate for 2102 based on herbaceous
23
