With an average depth of
3.9 feet, the capacity of the pond is 2.73 acre -feet. The topsoil from the excavation will be stored
in the stockpile just above the northwest corner of Pit 1 (Map C -2). Topsoil from Pit 1 will be
stored in this stockpile as well. Since the salvageable topsoil in this mining area is approximately
1.0 feet, and Pit 1 is 29.78 acres in size, the total acreage is 30.48 acres and the total volume is
49,170 cubic yards. Side - slopes of 2H:1 V, and a height of 26 feet will hold the excavated 49,170
cy. Upon the completed mining of Pit 1, this stockpile will be returned to the pit for the creation
of a wetland shelf on the northwestern side of the pit, and the building of 3H:1 V reclaimed
slopes in the pit. The sediment pond will have a gated discharge structure of 8" diameter that can
easily be shut to keep water in the pond if necessary. An 18' high berm will provide visual
protection to all traffic on Interstate 70 during the mine life. Some portions of this berm may be
made of topsoil while other portions will be overburden. Approximately 100' by 100' pillars
(Map C -3) will be left along the highwalls at locations determined by the operator for the
purpose of building sites once reclamation is completed. A maximum of 20 pillars will be left
behind.
15 Road Pit May 14 D -2
