Table D -3
Mining Tonnage per Area
Pit
Acres
Tons
Life
(years)
1
30.71
1,014,495
2.5*
2
31.1
1,093,275
2.5
3
55.1
2,604,263
4.4
4
75.19
3,521,207
6.1
Total
192.1
8,198,000
15.5
*much of Pit 1 is mined out
Note that the areas above only include mining areas, not areas along the perimeter.
Primary access to the property is 15 Road to US Highway 50. The haul route from the pit
initially uses an existing access road ROW on the Western Slope Iron property. This property
was sold to Western Slope Iron from United, which retained 100' ROW on the western side for
ingress /egress. A the northern end of the easement, the access road joins the 15 Road, which
intersects US Highway 50 at an existing channelized intersection at the point that the N -S section
line between Sections 11 and 12 meets the Highway. An automatic railroad crossing also exists
where 15 Road crosses the tracks. This intersection is being used by all activities on the refinery
property as well as all traffic from the United property. Map C -2 indicates the location of the
haul route from the pit to Highway 50. The road entrance on Highway 50 currently has an
acceleration lane and a deceleration lane for trucks entering the property from the east. This was
done as part of the initial approval in 2002. Accel/decel also exists for traffic going west from the
pit and returning. Given the maximum production of the site coupled with the available trucks, it
is estimated that a peak of 8 -9 trips per hours will utilize the haul route at maximum production.
Only 24 ton capacity trucks will be used. It is expected that 90% of the trucks moving the
products off site will be of the belly dump type. In order to control dust, water will be used on an
as needed basis.
15 Road Pit May 14 D -4
