Apri122, 2014 C- 1982 - 057 /Seneca 11-W Mine JHB
Pond 5 was in good condition. This pond was discharging clear, 0.02 on staff gauge. No problems were noted on
the embankment or pond inslopes. Staff gauge is mounted on the inlet side of the flume.
Pond 009 was visible from the ridgeline. No obvious problems were observed with Pond 009 at this time.
Pond 006 was discharging. Oil booms are disintegrating and appear caught under the trash rack. Water elevation
is at the top of the primary riser. Some boom material appears to be falling into the riser pipe. Discharge
measured 0.18 -0.20 on the staff gauge of the flume. 006 flume requires cleanout. vegetative material is deposited
on the bottom of the flume. (Photo 23)
Pond 16 was discharging. Pond appeared to be functioning well.
Drainages,
The drainage downgradient from stocktank T -20 is downcutting. The knickpoint is outside of the disturbance area
approximately 40 ft.west of the rock armoring below T -20. This channel is downcut approx. 3 feet and appears
that the knickpoint may continue to migrate up channel. A second knickpoint is downcutting even with
Groundwater monitoring well GW- S2W -14W. (Photo 6).
Drainage 005 -W1 is holding up well. Transplanted tree species are beginning to bud. (Photo 13)
005 -Gulch appears stable. No signs of downcutting or serious rilling was noted in the drainage upslope from T-
18. Snow drifts were still present on the south side of this drainage.
Drainage 006 -NE4 continues to hold up well at the eastern extent. The inspector walked down 006 -NE4 to just
west of the powerline. No concerns with 006 -NE4 were noted.
A significant gully is forming in the rose thicket between drainage 006 -NE4 and 006 -NE3. A gully is forming 8 "-
1 foot deep extending for approximately 150 feet. This gully has cut through the topsoil and is continuing to
downcut into the spoil material. SCC needs to conduct rill & gully repair to retard the progress of this gully.
006 -NE2 and 006 -NE3 were holding up well.
006 -S 1 had a heavy flow of water but was holding up well.
006 -E1 and 006 -E2 were holding up well and were dry.
006 -Gulch and PM6 were holding up well. Gabions held up well to the snowmelt. (Photos 24 & 25) None of the
gabions had failed and all were functioning well. Some channeling of flow was occurring at the 7th gabion west
of HRI.
Some side cutting of the drainage was occurring at the confluence of 006 -Gulch with 006 -E
Drainage between gabion 5 & 6 (west of HRI) has ripped reinforcement fabric and is undercutting. This segment
needs maintenance to assure this side drainage does not continue to undercut. (Photo 26 & 27).
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 7
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 14
