58
Clump locations
Two(2) clumps will be established on the RDA final surface. Referring to
Figure 6, one RDA clump will be positioned at N8,750, El 14,300 and one
clump at N9,250, E113,100. In the event the RDA is reclaimed prior to
constructing the RDA to its final design size, two clumps will be
established on the reclaimed surface, spaced at a sufficient distance from
the other and from the undisturbed areas so that the clumps are serving the
greater reclaimed area. Two(2) clumps will be established in the East
Portal facility area, with locations to be field- determined considering
permanent roads, the river, and the topography of the final reclaimed area.
One clump will be established at the location of the prep plant and pond 6.
In this clump, plains cottonwood will replace juniper and pinion pine due to
the riparian nature of this area. One clump will be established near the
DWDA 43 at the West Mine, the location to be selected based on the final
construction of DWDA #3 and permanent roads.
Orientation
Clumps will be square with a NW, NE, SW, and SE corner. This
orientation is important when coupled with the species and planting
arrangements discussed below.
Species
The species to be used are Ponderosa pine, Pinion pine, Utah juniper,
Mountain mahogany, Skunkbush sumac, Western snowberry, and Plains
cottonwood(pond 6 area).
Planting arrangement
In general, large species will be located on the north and west boundaries of
each clump to serve as a wind break. Small species will be located in the
interior of the clump and on the eastern edge. The largest of the species
should also be present, but in fewer numbers, on the south border to provide
shaded resting areas for wildlife. Cottonwoods at pond 6 should be on the
south border. Species will be placed using sufficient numbers of each to
ensure that sufficient numbers of each species will survive.
Spacing and numbers
One hundred (100) live transplants will be planted in each clump, allowing
each shrub to occupy an area of 100 square feet. This spacing should
reduce crowding and competition and allow for limited seeding of the
rangeland mix between shrubs transplant rows.
Section 2.05 TR -68 6/10/2013
