Memo to PCPC
Re: SUP No. 1999-002
June 9, 1999
Page 17
Rail and Truck Traffic from Raw Materials Delivery
Raw materials will be delivered by truck and rail at a consistent rate throughout
the production year. At maximum production, projected material deliveries
include 134,000 tons of material per year by truck and 170,000 tons per year by
rail. The impacts are equivalent to 4,800 haul trucks (at 28 tons per truck) and
1,700 rail cars (at 100 tons per railcar). Truck deliveries will occur during the
normal business week and day (Monday through Friday and 7AM to 5PM), which
results in an average of two trucks per hour delivering raw materials. Rail
deliveries will average 142 railcars per month and may arrive at any time during
a twenty-four hour period.
Rail and Truck Traffic from Cement Product Shipping
The Analysis reports that approximately 28% of annual production will be
shipped from the facility by truck and 72% by rail. Based on annual production
of 1,000,000 tons of cement, this equates to 278,000 tons shipped by truck and
722,000 tons shipped by rail. It is expected that a seasonal variation will impact
the pattern of shipments. The least amounts of product will be shipped in
January and February. Shipments increase in March and peak during April,
May, and June. Shipments back off in July and remain consistent till October.
Shipments in November and December tail off to a seasonal low again in
January-February.
The month of May is projected as having the largest volume of shipments with a
volume of 28,000 tons of cement being shipped by truck and 73,000 tons being
shipped by rail. Haul trucks will account for over 1,000 trips for the month at
approximately 50 trucks per day. Rail traffic will amount to 639 railcars for the
month averaging 21 railcars per day.
Daily Average and Peak Vehicle Counts
During peak shipping months, traffic counts along Lime Road will increase
approximately 180 vehicles per day due to employees and 140 vehicles per day
to truck shipments. Rail traffic will increase to 52 railcars per day.
Summary
There will be an increase in surface and rail traffic along Lime Road and its
associated rail crossing. Daily surface counts of vehicular traffic on Lime Road
