amec10
Earth & Environmental
D) Slope Contouring
1) VLF
Slope contouring was performed in the following areas: between stations 1-12 +00 ( + / -) and
1-16 +00 ( + / -), approximately 50 to 100 feet left of centerline; between station 1-19 +00 ( + / -) and
H13 +00 ( + / -), approximately 100 to 200 feet left of centerline; between stations H2O +00
( + / -) and H26 +00 ( + / -), approximately 100 to 200 feet left of centerline; and between stations
J20 +00 ( + / -) and J30 +00 ( + / -), approximately 50 feet left of centerline to 250 feet right of
centerline. Slope contouring was performed using various CAT dozers. Material generated as
the cut progressed was pushed down the slope.
E) Overburden to Stockpile
1) VLF
Oversize rock within the Phase 5 VLF fill area was removed from fill areas and hauled to the
overburden stockpile area east of the east perimeter road near stations A28 +00 ( + / -) to A36 +00
F) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A CAT 385 excavator, a CAT 375 excavator, and a John Deere 850 excavator were used to
excavate structural fill material from the following areas: between stations H1 +00 ( + / -) and
1-14 +00 ( + / -), approximately 0 to 50 feet right of centerline; between stations H24 +00 ( + / -) and
H26 +00 ( + / -), approximately 50 to 100 feet left of centerline; between stations J27 +00 ( + / -)
and J30 +00 ( + / -), approximately 0 to 50 feet right of centerline; and between stations K0 +00
( + / -) and K4 +00 ( + / -), approximately 150 to 250 feet right of centerline. The structural fill
material was loaded into CAT 777 haul trucks and hauled to fill areas.
Prior to structural fill placement existing fill areas were ripped and frost was allowed to thaw
or was removed. Existing fill temperature were monitored and found to be above 327 before
fill placement. An AMEC representative monitored ambient temperatures on an hourly basis
during fill placement. Fill temperatures were monitored during ambient temperatures below
32 °F and averaged 33 °F to 41 °F.
Structural fill was placed between stations B 1 +50 ( + / -) and B10+50 ( + / -), approximately 75
feet left of centerline to 75 feet right of centerline and between stations J20 +00 ( + / -) and
J24 +00 ( + / -), approximately 100 to 200 feet left of centerline. Structural fill was placed in 18"
to 24" lifts using various CAT dozers. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773
water truck (when necessary) and compacted using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor,
passing over the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is
applicable). Ambient and fill temperatures were monitored and recorded during fill placement.
Blast pattern drilling was performed between stations J24 +00 ( + / -) and J30 +00 ( + / -),
approximately 30 feet left of centerline to 200 feet right of centerline. Blasting was performed
on Monday (2/8/2010), Tuesday (2/9/2010), Wednesday (2/10/2010), and Saturday
(2/13/2010). No blasting was performed on Thursday (2/11/2010) or Friday (2/12/2010).
VLF Weekly Report WE 02.13.10.D.doc
