October 2001 -16- 003-2182.004
4.1.3 AtterbergLimits
imits
Golder performed Atterberg limit testing of all fill materials. All fill materials, with the
exception of Soil Liner Fill were non-plastic. The testing frequency(approximately one test per
3000 cubic yards for Soil Liner Fill) exceeded the minimum specified testing frequency. The
Soil Liner Fill, Leak Detection Fill, Pipe Bedding Fill, Structural Fill, and Base Course samples
tested met project specifications for Atterberg limits. The plasticity index of the two CQA Soil
Liner Fill samples was 29, which met the project specification of plasticity index greater than or
equal to 10. Atterberg limit test results are presented in Appendix G-1 and summarized in
Tables 4-8.
4.1.4 Proctor Compaction Tests
Golder performed standard Proctor compaction tests of Soil Liner Fill and testable Structural
Fill in order to compare in-place densities and moisture contents with laboratory derived values
of maximum dry density and optimum moisture content. On Structural Fill samples where the
amount of material larger than 3/4-inch particle size was less than or equal to that allowed by
the ASTM D698 test method, a Proctor test was performed on samples of the Structural Fill
used for site grading.
Golder performed four CQA standard Proctor compaction tests of Structural Fill. The testing
frequency (approximately one test per 14,400 cubic yards) exceeded the minimum specified
testing frequency of one test per 50,000 cubic yards. The Structural Fill compaction test results
are presented in Appendix G-2 and summarized in Table 4. CQC Proctor tests were not
included in the Proctor testing frequency.
Golder performed two CQA standard Proctor compaction tests of Soil Liner Fill. The testing
frequency (approximately one test per 3,000 cubic yards) exceeded the minimum specified
testing frequency of one test per 5,000 cubic yards.
