7. The Applicant has stated that the Hoffinan Pit will be mined in phases, with each phase being between 10 to
12 acres in size. As required by Rule 6.4.4( e), please provide the following information:
We have decided to eliminate "phasing" on this mine as per our conversation. Reclamation will be concurrent
with mining with no more than 10 -1Z acres affected that are either undisturbed, or in some stage of reclamation.
a. An estimate of the periods of time which will be required for the various phases of the operation;
We have eliminated phasing.
b. A description of the size and location of each area to be worked during each phase; and
We have eliminated phasing.
c. Outline the sequence in which each stage or phase of the operation will be carried out.
We have eliminated phasing.
8. The Applicant has stated that erosion control BMP's will be utilized to protect drainages. Please provide the
Division with additional information on the BMP's to be used, including:
a. A general description of the placement of the erosion control structures.
Berms such as the one used on the West side of the mining area between the affected area and the ravine will be
constructed to prevent storm water discharge and erosion. Anywhere there might be the possibility of storm
water discharge caused by future excavation, these berms will be put into place.
b. Maintenance and inspection plan for the erosion control structures.
The berms should be inspected each time mining takes place to insure their integrity. Maintenance would be
performed on an as needed basis based on those inspections.
c. Describe any vegetative buffers that will be left in place.
As mining progresses, moving Bast, there is the potential of encountering more ravines as was done on the West
side. A strip of land will be left between those ravines and the affected area. The natural vegetation on that strip
will help to prevent erosion.
d. A timetable for when the erosion control structures will be removed and the criteria used to determine when
the structures will be removed.
The original mining plan stated that bales of hay would be put in place to prevent erosion. This was deleted in
the revised plan because of the cattle in the same pasture that would make short work of any hay or straw that
was left there. But should it be decided that structures such as silt fencing be used in the future, these structures
would remain in place until vegetation was established, and the threat of erosion abated.
e. A timetable for when erosion control structures will be constructed as mining progresses to a new phase.
Berms will be constructed as soon as the potential for storm water discharge is identified.
