RULE 2 PERMITS
• A summary of information relating to soil suitability and recommended salvage depths is provided in
Table 2.04.9-13. The information for each map unit and soil series includes:
• Map unit symbol and name
• Acreage of each map unit in [he proposed disturbed area
• Soil sample location numbers
• Total soil depth
• Total salvage depth
• Recommended topsoiUsubsoil salvage depth
• Limitations to deeper salvage
Soils laboratory data for [he forty soil samples, collected from eleven soil profiles, is presented in Table
2.04.9-14.
Map Unit Suitability Evaluation, Salvage Depths, and Soil Volumes -Lower Wilson Mine Area
Soil suitability and salvage depth was evaluated for all soil horizons of each soil series in each map unit in
the Lower Wilson mining area. As stated above, results of that evaluation are presented in Table 2.04.9-
12. The Lower Wilson mining area contains mostly deep soils with sufficient quantities of suitable soil
available for salvage. Seven map units were identified within the proposed disturbed area associated with
the Lower Wilson Mine Area. A total of 16 soil profiles were fully described in the Lower Wilson
mining area. Thirty soil samples were collected from 9 of the excavated soil profiles. Soils
description/sample locations are shown on Map SB.
The Lower Wilson mining area contains several deep soils with suitable topsoil that are on mostly gently
. sloping to moderately sloping areas. These soils include Adderton sandy loam (Map Unit A), Cochetopa
sandy loam (Map Unit B), and Silas sandy loam (Map Unit S), with recommended salvage depths of
suitable soil of 18 inches, 18 inches, and 48 inches, respectively.
Three other deep soils (Campspass channery sandy clay loam, Rhone loam and Lamphier sandy loam)
also have thick deposits of suitable soil, with 12 inches, 24 inches, and 36 inches, respectively, of
recommended salvageable soil. A portion of the areas Campspass (Map Unit D), Rhone (Map Units C
and D), and Lamphier (Map Unit E) soils are mapped on have slopes greater than 40 percent. The very
steeply sloping portions (>40%o slopes) aze estimated to be about 20 [0 25% of the proposed disturbed
area and are located along very steep portions of the valley sideslopes of "unnamed" drainage in the main
area of the potential disturbed area.
In addition, two other soils in the potential disturbed area have suitable soils. Waybe stony sandy loam
and Danavore channery loam (both in Map Unit F) have approximately 6 inches of suitable soil. These
are shallow and moderately deep soils, respectively, and primarily are on moderately sloping areas.
Finally, a very small portion of [he proposed disturbed area is Disturbed Land (Map Unit DL). This
accounts for only 2.4 acres, and no soil is available for salvage from this area.

South Taylor/L.ower Wilson -Rule 2, Page 58 Revision Date: 11/30/06
Revision No.: PR-02
