• 5RT2749.2 <br />Site Description. This is a short segment of a named road (Hayden to Twentymile Park <br />Road), that appears on the 1915 GLO map for T5N, R86W, Section 32. Routt County Road (CR) <br />27 in located in the same general path as the historic road where it passes through the current <br />project area. The segment recorded for this project begins at the intersection of CR 27 and CR 33 <br />on the east side of Foidel Creek. The road travels along the south - facing side slope of large ridge <br />to the north and is situated along the north side of a small unnamed tributary to Foidel Creek. <br />Foidel Creek is located approximately 2300ft (700m) to the west. This creek flows along the <br />eastern edge of Twentymile Park and eventually empties into the Yampa River. The segment of <br />road is 330ft (100m) east of the entrance into Twentymile Mine headquarters. <br />Vegetation surrounding the road is predominately sagebrush with sparse grasses and forbs <br />on the northeast side, while the area along the southwest side has been disturbed to a greater extent <br />and consists of less sagebrush with larger amounts of grasses and forbs. Surface visibility was <br />100% along the road sides and drops to 30 to 70% in the areas surrounding the site. <br />There were only modern era features /structures observed along the road segment. These <br />included a power pole, modern bridge overpass (crossing a modern era rail spur) and a modern era <br />road (CR 33). No historic artifacts were observed along the road, only modern era trash was <br />noted. <br />Eligibility and Management Recommendations. The road segment does not exhibit <br />• unique or well preserved construction methods that would characterize a particular historic period <br />in time. Nor does the recorded segment (5RT2749.2) retain the physical characteristics of the <br />original 1915 historic road. The entire length is a crowned and ditched, paved county road and <br />has possibly been slightly rerouted in places from its original path. It retains none of the <br />workmanship, design or materials of the original road. The setting and feeling of the surrounding <br />area has also been significantly altered by a modern era bridge overpass of a rail spur, power lines, <br />and modern era mine development. It is recommended that 5RT2749.2 is not eligible for <br />inclusion to the NRHP. This recommendation does not apply to the entire resource's eligibility, <br />but the segment would be a noncontributing segment to the entire resource. No further work is <br />recommended for the current project associated with this road segment. <br />Isolated Finds <br />5RT3070. Single tertiary flake of a cream colored chalky Kremmling chert. One side <br />has a bulb of percussion and the other side has several pressure reduction flakes removed. <br />5RT3071. Two tertiary flakes located 3m apart. One is a cream colored Kremmling chert <br />and the other is a white quartzite.
