• Foothills Engineering. It is a small historic habitation with only remanents of several structures
and features remaining. During the site revisit, only a small amount of surface evidence for the
features was still visible. Overall the site condition is similar to the most recent recordings except
that some additional deterioration has occurred.
Eligibility and Management Recommendations. This site was originally recorded as
not eligible. MAC found nothing during this revisit to contradict that recommendation. No
further work is recommended.
5RT410
Site Description. This site was originally recorded in 1984 by Goodson and Associates
as part of the Hayden -Gore TAP 13 8K Transmission Line project and revisited in 1994 by
Foothills Engineering. It is a very sparse lithic scatter consisting of only ten flakes. During the
site revisit several flakes were observed in the area. Conditions seem to be similar to those
described in 1994.
Eligibility and Management Recommendations. The site was originally recorded as
not eligible. MAC found nothing during this revisit to contradict that recommendation. No
further work is recommended.
5RT487
Site Description. Site 5RT487 was originally recorded in 1984 by Grand River Institute
as part of the Hayden -Gore TAP 138KV Transmission Line project, revisited in 1995 by Foothills
Engineering, and revisited again in 2002 by Metcalf Archaeology. This site was recorded as a
prehistoric open camp site and lithic scatter. There is a small area in the southwest portion of the
site that could possibly contain intact buried cultural material, and this area should be avoided or
tested prior to any ground disturbing activities. During the site revisit, a few artifacts were
observed, most in deflated and eroded areas of the site, and the presence of deposition was noted in
the southwest portion of the site.
Eligibility and Management Recommendations. This site was originally
recommended as "need data ". A reevaluation was conducted in 2002 stating that the only portion
of the site which could have research potential (O'Brien 2002) was the extreme southwest portion.
During the conveyor line project MAC concurs with the reevaluation. The area where the
proposed conveyor line is staked does not pass through this area of deposition. Since the line
passes through an area that has an existing road, and is mostly deflated and eroded, MAC
recommends the current line position, within the site, as non contributing. It is also recommended
that all ground disturbing construction along the centerline be limited to 50ft along the southwest
side and 100ft on the northeast side. If this is not possible then the area of deposition should be
tested prior to construction, the line should be moved to the northeast, or no construction should
take place within the site area boundary.
For Official Use Only: Disclosure of Site Locations Prohibited (43 CFR §7.18)
10
•
