Region

These four sites lie in a region which now Dffers little

in the way of recreation, It is for th~ most ~art yrairie country

through which the s~reams have cut rUGged canyons. The vegetation

along these canyons consists ~ainly of scattered stands of cedar, pine

and cot ton,lood.

the region is touched .,ith romance and legends of early

Spanish occupation. With the excel'tion 0.'- I'ueblo there are no towns

of importance in tris region. Pueblo is tha second largest city in

the State, having a populatiDn of ~Ver 52,000. It is located at

elevation 4,700 feet.

The greater portion of the visitor attendance at these

reservoir sit~s can ,)e ex!-,ected from th~ city of i-'ueblo and other

corrmur, ities within easy travel distance 01' the sites. The reser-

voir areas are not expected to draw visitors from great distances.

At present it appears that onlY day use facilities ~ill be needed.

,

,

'-.

'.

41
