The site is accessible also from <br /> <br /> <br />U. S. highway 50 west of Pueblo by way of county roads and trails. <br /> <br /> <br />The Denver and Rio GrOinde 'IIestern nailroad bet"een <br /> <br /> <br />FueblD and Gunnison follows the river through the site and relocation <br /> <br /> <br />of this section of the road :'lill be required. <br /> <br /> <br />The reservoir as planned aould be ~onstructed in two <br /> <br /> <br />phases, in accordance ,;,ith thE ::'ureau"s plans for the entire project. <br /> <br /> <br />The first phase woulc be the construction of a 400,00G acre foot reser- <br /> <br /> <br />voir Vlith a normal water level at elevation 4,876 feet. The proposed <br /> <br /> <br />dam would be about 11,000 feet long and about 180 feet high. The reser- <br /> <br /> <br />voir would be a;;prcximately 9.5 miles long. Its width at the widest <br /> <br /> <br />point of the main body of the reservoir at normal water level would be <br /> <br /> <br />about 1.5 miles. The second phase would be the enlargement of the <br /> <br /> <br />then existing reservoir to an 800,000 acre fODt reservoir. The pro- <br /> <br /> <br />posed dam ,Jould l::e api,roxiIrately 12,000 feet long and about 220 feet <br /> <br /> <br />high. This enlarged reservoir ~ould be about 13 miles long and 2.0 <br /> <br /> <br />miles ,'dde.
