-48-

Sterling No.1 Ditch priority for 113.9 c/f/sdirect flow, dated

July 15, 1873. All priorities in Districts 1 and 64 senior to

the Weldon Valley Ditch total 428.29 c/f/s. Since the South

.

Platte River is probably a "gaining" river in Districts 1 and 64,

many senior priorities can be satisfied from return flow.

According to the Directors of the Weldon Valley Ditch Company,

"calls" on the river by the senior Sterling No.1 Ditch have in-

creasing1y affected the Weldon Valley Ditch in recent years. They
said that prior to 1952 there were only 4 years in 50 in which

calls by the Sterling No.1 Ditch had shut down the Weldon Valley
Ditch. Since 1952 the ditch has been shut down for considerable

periods of time during each irrigation season. During the last

5 years these shutdowns have resulted in period of no water at

all for several weeks each year.

In the middle 1950's the Weldon Valley Ditch Company began

purchasing stored water from other sources in an effort to offset

the losses caused by the shutdowns. The books of the company,

which were given to us for inspection, show the following water

purchases:

1955

,

Voucher No. 17, May 3, 1955: Cashier's check for
diversion. 1100 feet diversion water. $3,589.45.
(This was Colorado-Big Thompson water).

Voucher No. 32, May 24, 1955: To J. H. Roediger
Estate for 10 Jackson Lake rights. $450.00.

,

Voucher No. 33, May 24, 1955:
for Jackson Lake rights.

To Elmer F. Vannoy
$3,000.00.

,

Voucher No. 62, July 21, 1955:
for Jackson Lake rights.

To Elmer F. Vannoy
$3,060.00.

Voucher No. 63, August 2, 1955:
for 4 Jackson Lake rights.

To E. F. Vannoy
$180.00.

WOOOWARO.CL YOE.~HERARP AND ASSOCIATES
