Quad- <br />rangle maps for the Barnesville, Hardin, Dearfield, Masters, <br />Orchard, and We1dona Quadrangles. Part is in an unmapped area <br />south of Fort Morgan. <br />The Company owns the Bijou Canal and the Bijou No. 2 Reser- <br />voir. The Di.strict owns the Empire Inlet Canal and the Empire <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Reservoir. <br /> <br />(ThiS is the opposite of the situation under the <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Riverside system.) There are 19,189.97 acres of land on which <br />district taxes are paid and each is entitled to its pro rata share <br />of "district water". <br />(The Company operates the Bijou Canal as a carrier ditch to <br />convey the priority of the Putnam Ditch Company, which takes its <br />water from the canal above the lands in the District and pays a <br />"running fee" for this service. In addition, there are a few <br />Company stockholders who have rights from the Bijou Canal in the <br />Green City area and who are not a part of the District). <br />The Bijou Irrigation District is a public irrigation district <br />organized under the 1905 statute. Its offices are in Fort Morgan. <br />The Board of Directors of the District is comprised of Reuben <br />Peif, Tom Cooper, and William Nnbrose. The Secretary-Treasurer <br />of the District is John W. "Bill" Samples, a nephew of John L. <br />Samples, the Water Commissioner and the Superintendent of the <br />District system is James R. Pughe, Sr. <br />Since the District owns almost 3/4 of the stock in the <br />Company, it controls the Company.
