The Bijou System The Bijou System is controlled by the Bijou Irrigation Company and the Bijou Irrigation District. The system itself consists of the Empire Inlet Cana1, the Empire Reservoir, the Bijou Canal, and the Bijou No. 2 Reservoir. It is located on the south side of the river in the Fort Morgan area. The headgate of the Empire Inlet Canal is located about seven miles upstream from Hardin, and about 1 mile upstream from the Riverside Intake Canal headgate, on the south bank of the South Platte River. It runs along the south side of the river for several miles to the Empire Reservoir, located near Green City , Flats, which is about 15 miles upstream from Fort Morgan. Empire ~ Reservoir discharges into the Bijou Canal. The headgate of the Bijou Canal is on the south bank of the river about four miles downstream from Hardin. The canal runs for many miles on the south side of the river, past Empire Reser- . voir, past the Bijou No. 2 Reservoir, to the Fort Morgan area, irrigating lands generally west and south of Fort Morgan.
