000720

.

.

,

The repayment contract with the North Fork Water Conservancy District was
amended and signed October 23 to provide for a full 10-year development
period on both the Fire Mountain and the Leroux Creek irrigation blocks.

Bostwick Park Project

The contractor for Silver Jack Dam has completed placing compacted back-
fill around the outlet works except for the dome of the gate chamber.
Nearly 60 percent of the concrete has been placed for the spillway inlet
and 85 percent for the spillway conduit section. Concrete placements
were started for the spillway stilling basin during October. The contrac-
tor resumed work on the dam embankment during August and will continue
this work as long as weather will permit. He plans to mobilize a much
larger earth moving fleet next spring and to complete the dam embankment
before the 1969 winter shutdown.

POWER MARKETING

Power contracts now in force with 84 customers call for the delivery of
425,000 kilowatts of firm power this coming winter and about 800,000 kilo-
watts during the summer of 1969. Thus next summer the purchasers of Stor-
age Project power will be receiving almost 80 percent of the capacity of
the project which will pass the million-kilowatt mark by next year. Most
of the contracts call for an increase in the rate of delivery in succes-
sive years.

The progress in power marketing is reflected in the financial status of
the project. For the 12 months ended June 30, 1968, revenues were suffi-
cient to meet all expenses of operation, including the year's interest on
the unpaid balance of the investment, and contributed $833,000 to the
accumulated amount to be repaid. Present repayment studies show that all
costs allocated to power will be completely repaid with interest by the
39th year of operation.

The power contracting activities of the Bureau now relate chiefly to amend-
ing contracts to place the customers' 1975-76 needs under contract. This
work has been proceeding for just about a year, and in this time contracts
were completed with 16 agencies and many more are in the final stages of
negotiation. In Colorado, the customers that have completed their 1975-76
contractB are the cities of Gunnison, Colorado Springs, Delta, Oak Creek,
Center, and Fort Morgan and Intermountain REA.

COLORADO RIVER STORAGE PROJECT RESERVOIRS

The level of Lake Powell has receded 6 feet from its all-time high reached
during August 1968 to elevation 3544 feet with a content of 9,398,000 acre-
feet. The lake is expected to remain near this level until the spring
runoff starts in 1969.

2
